Applicant overview: In 1987 the Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council Policy (Inner Areas) Sub-committee proposed a feasibility study into black business in the region. The study aims to 1) stimulate the development of Afro-Caribbean business by the provision of advice, consultancy, training and access to finance, 2) provide a comprehensive advisory, placement, negotiatory training, counselling support and advice service on behalf of the employment needs of Afro-Caribbeans, 3) provide training in new technology, clothing manufacturing, vehicle servicing, business management, secretarial skills, food production and hair and beauty techniques, 4) services to unemployed Afro-Caribbeans and, 5) provision of small offices and workshop units.
