Applicant overview: The aim of this project is to provide a training package for business advisers to enable them to be sound and appropriate helpers of individuals who wish to establish themselves essentially in self-employment that is likely to sustain themselves at an acceptable level of business risk. Advisers will need to take a realistic view of an individual and his or her idea and business proposition, provide sound guidance through the necessary steps to turn a business idea into an effective operation and to effect introductions and provide relevant credentials to potential providers of needed recourses. A similar programme was proposed at Durham University before being pursued through the School of Industrial and Business Studies at Warwick University. These projects were offered to be run with the technical advice of the Loans Guarantee Consortium (LGC).
