Applicant overview: SCUDA was originally proposed in 1989 by a coalition of Sandwell community organisations to respond to the absence of credit unions in Sandwell. The aim of the new agency is to, 1) co-ordinate the development work that is beginning to take place in the borough, 2) provide advice, information and support to people in local communities or places of employment, 3) set out appropriate training for those who take part in the administration and operation of credit unions, and 4) promote credit unions and disseminate information about them across the borough. Nature of support: In 1989 the Trust approved two to five annual grants of up to £20,000 to SCUDA though this was subsequently converted to five annual grants of £10,000 per annum.
