Applicant overview: WIDIC was established as the Ormeau Road Women's Drop-In Centre in Belfast. WIDIC is a locally managed community information centre that exists to promote community relations in the area, in particular by encouraging women and youths to take the initiative in trying to improve our local social and economic circumstances. The Centre's work focuses on the development of cross-community links, promoting women's organisations and issues, the creation of leisure, recreational and education opportunities in the area and promoting local community economic development. WIDIC wound up in 1996. Nature of support: In 1993 the Trust approved a grant of £10,000 per annum for two years towards the running costs of the Centre. In 1995 on the advice of Northern Ireland Programme Trustees the Trust approved three annual grants of £12,000 to WIDIC. In 1996 the Trust rescinded outstanding grants and approved a single grant of £5,000 to assist in the winding up of WIDIC.
