Praxis also works to raise public understanding of different cultures, to combat the effects of racism and to encourage integration through a range of positive social, cultural and educational activities. In 1999 Praxis proposed the Employment Development Programme (EDP) as a pilot to carry out research on how employment and business opportunities could be developed for refugee communities, specifically through the establishment of credit savings schemes, local trading schemes and community businesses. Praxis was established in 1983. Nature of support: In 1999 on the advice of Asylum, Immigration and Resettlement Programme Relevant Trustees the Trust agreed to a single grant of £8,000 to the EDP.
