DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overviews, file sheets, annual reports, payments summary, accounts, project proposals and funding requests relating to the Asian Resource Centre (ARC). Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: ARC is a Handsworth institution. The Centre came into existence in November 1976 based on the growing belief, at the time, that it was necessary and desirable for Asian residents in Handsworth to have their own autonomous and physically distinct community activities. ARC acts as a social welfare agency, serving the needs of the Asian community in Birmingham. It offers free and prompt advice and information on social security, immigration and/or nationality, family, matrimonial, housing matters, Council Tax, benefits etc. Assistance is provided in a variety of languages including English, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali and Gujarati. Nature of support: In 2002 the Trust approved three annual grants of £26,000 towards the salary and associated costs of a general community worker's post. Later that year a single grant of £10,000 was agreed to undertake an evaluation of the Centre and its activities over twenty-five years. Minutes: BCT 1146, BCT 1177. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered 'A/5'.
