Applicant overview: WARS was formed in October 1999 when the need for support and a common voice amongst refugee and asylum seeker communities in Wolverhampton was identified. WARS aims broadly to, 1) undertake social, welfare, cultural activities and support educational programmes that shall assist the organisation in developing and supporting refugees and asylum seekers in Wolverhampton and surrounding areas, and, 2) work with other statutory and voluntary organisations striving for the same cause of welfare of the refugee and asylum seeker community and wider society in which members live. Nature of support: In 2001 on the advice of Asylum, Immigration and Resettlement Programme Relevant Trustees the Trust approved grants totalling £44,500 to fund an advice workers post.
