Applicant overview: In 1983, findings from the research 'Out of the Shadows – Migrants in Pimlico and Victoria' revealed the need for a community centre to meet the needs of migrants and refugees living in London. In response, the Migrant Resource Centre was established in 1984 to run classes, courses and social activities, to offer advice and to provide a voice for migrants and refugees. The MRC became a registered charity in 1985. The principle object of MRC is to promote any charitable propose for the benefit of refugees, asylum seekers and minority ethnic migrant workers of any nationality and their families and, in particular, the advance of education, health protection and the relief of poverty and distress. Nature of support: In 2000 the Trust approved a single grant of £12,500 in 2000/2001 towards the costs of a pilot programme of training for migrants and refugees. Minutes: BCT 897.
