DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, grant overviews, newsletters and funding requests relating to the National Children's Bureau (NCB). Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust, Disability Programme. Applicant overview: NCB was founded in 1963, as the National Bureau for Cooperation in Child Care (NBCCC), reflecting the growing social concern over the treatment of neglected children and the realisation of the importance of preventative work. Improving the education and training of childcare staff, anxiety over adoption and fostering procedures, and concerns over child health and education, were also contributing factors to the creation of the organisation. The NBCCC became the NCB in 1970. NCB aims to, 1) reduce inequalities of opportunity in childhood, 2) ensure children and young people can use their voice to improve their lives and the lives of those around them, 3) improve perceptions of children and young people, 4) enhance the health, learning, experiences and opportunities of children and young people, 5) encourage the building of positive and supportive relationships for children and young people with families, carers, friends and communities, and 6) provide leadership through the use of evidence and research to improve policy and practice. Nature of support: In 1996 on the advice of Disability Programme Trustees the Trust approved a single grant of £10,000 to the NCB. Minutes: BCT 213, DP 8/96, DP 28/96. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File not numbered.
