Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd., Community Organising Programme. Applicant overview: The SBRF was set up in May 1996 from a grant from the Fund. The project intends to provide a means for the Communities Organised for Greater Bristol (COGB) to maintain and develop its presence in South Bristol and to employ organising tools and approaches to the regeneration of a large section of the city of Bristol. Detailed objectives are to, 1) promote and encourage the participation of local people in the regeneration of south Bristol, 2) match jobs with skills, 3) identify job opportunities, their diversity, abundance and sustainability, 4) research the means of tackling poverty and low wages in south Bristol, 5) build relationships and identify key players in the area, and 6) become an expert on employment issues and to share this expertise with other broad-based organisations across the country. Nature of support: In 1996 the Fund approved three annual grants of £35,000 per annum to the SBRF. That same year an additional £750 was approved for the project.
