The organisation has five strategies to achieve this aim: 1) the production of high quality publications written by and for adults developing reading and writing skills, 2) the organisation of workshops and special events to promote writing by adults who are developing reading and writing skills and to increase the quality and quantity of work suitable for publication, 3) a service of advice and support to adults developing reading and writing skills, to tutors and policy makers, 4) a policy of promoting Gatehouse working methods regionally and nationally, and, 5) strengthening the internal organisation and management structure of Gatehouse. The organisation became a registered charity in 1992 and is a company limited by guarantee.
