The Trust was established in the early 1980s and became a registered charity in 1990. The Trust has been actively involved in promoting a range of race equality issues affecting black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities. The Trust is focused on three main areas: 1) research and policy development from a global community perspective, 2) community leadership: developing civic and social inclusion programmes, and 3) information and consultation: enabling community voices in race equality policy and initiatives. Nature of support: In 2001 the Trust approved a series of grants to allow The 1990 Trust to increase its strategic role at the national level. Levels of support were confirmed at £20,000 for 2001/2002, £95,000 for 2002/2003, £100,000 for 2003/2004, £105,000 for 2004/2005 and £110,000 for 2005/2006.
