OBV's goal is for a fair, just and inclusive democracy, one that offers rights to all and demands responsibility from all, black and white. Its vision is one of talented, energetic and creative black community enhancing British democracy and British society and the celebration of difference in the building of new partnerships. It aims to make that vision a reality through political education, participation and representation. OBV's primary aims are to, 1) enable and encourage active citizenship in the black and minority ethnic (BME) community, 2) achieve greater BME political participation, 3) achieve greater BME representation in public life, 4) increase the number of BME people registered to vote, and 5) demonstrate the benefits of BME participation to the wider society. Nature of support: In 2002 the Fund agreed to a grant of £65,000 to be paid over three years to mobilise electoral participation of black voters in three selected marginal constituencies.
