Applicant overview: The ALC, established by the United Evangelical Project, was born out of the needs of the local African Caribbean community, particularly highlighted during the disturbances of 1985. The Centre provides advice, assistance and representation in housing, community care and welfare benefits law. There are many overlaps between these areas of law and work in these areas in the main involves the Centre challenging the local authority and housing associations in respect of the rights of clients and the responsibilities of these organisations. Nature of support: In 2001 the Trust agreed to a grant of £25,000 per annum for three years towards the salary of a project worker's post and associated costs. This was subsequently extended.
