Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd., Reconciliation Programme. Applicant overview: PBI was founded in 1981 to further the work of international non-violent action in support of human rights. PBI sends small unarmed 'peace teams' invited into areas of violent repression or conflict. Teams accompany union leaders, human rights and peasant organisations. This non-violent escort service is supported by an Emergency Response Network (ERN) which works closely with Amnesty International to ensure that world opinion is alerted whenever a kidnapping or assassination occurs.
