DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overviews, accounts, project proposal and funding requests relating to the London Museum of Jewish Life. Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust, Justice and Peace Programme. Applicant overview: The London Museum of Jewish Life was founded in 1983 as the Museum of the Jewish East End with the aim of rescuing and preserving the disappearing heritage of London's East End – the heartland of Jewish settlement in Britain. While the East End has remained an important focus, the Museum expanded to reflect the diverse roots and social history of Jewish people across London, including the experiences of refugees from Nazism. It also developed an acclaimed programme of Holocaust and anti-racist education. In 1995 the two museums were amalgamated and later combined into one site as the Jewish Museum. Nature of support: In 1995 on the advice of Justice and Peace Programme Relevant Trustees the Trust made a single grant of £1,000 towards an exhibition of Holocaust survivor Leon Greenman. In 1998 the Trust agreed to three annual grants of £12,000 to the Jewish Museum Greenman's travel costs and the appointment of a full-time education officer. In 2002 a further £5,000 was allocated to Greenman for travel. Minutes: BCT 653, BCT 1152, JPP 17/95, JPP 3/96. Notes: File organised roughly from newest to oldest. File not numbered.
