DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, file sheets, grant overviews, reports and project proposal relating to the Parliamentary Human Rights Group. Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The PHRG promotes the use of the Parliamentary platform and mandate to raise awareness of serious international human rights violations and to lobby for redress and reform. It works closely with many human rights organisations in the UK to facilitate their access to Parliament and parliamentarians. They provide information to MPs about pressing or emerging issues, conduct visits to human rights hot spots and report their findings, and work with other similar groups in parliaments around the world. Nature of support: In 2000 the Trust approved a grant of £24,000 per annum to appoint a staff member to support the PHRG for the remainder of the standing parliament. In 2005 a further grant of £8,000 to support the costs of a one-day international conference on the political participation of Muslim women in the UK and internationally in March 2006. Minutes: BCT 975. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File not numbered.
