DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, funding requests and leaflets relating to a variety of projects in Botswana. Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: Trust work in Botswana began with a regional tour by Administrative Secretary Anthony Wilson in 1970. Wilson had formerly served as Commissioner for Community Development in Malawi and it was decided to utilise his expertise by actively seeking out projects in Africa. Most community projects in Botswana are carried out under the auspices of the Community Development Department (CDD). Its responsibilities include providing urban and rural training courses, school feeding programmes and overseeing Builders Brigades to occupy out of school youth and to meet shortages of trained builders. Working with the CDD is the Botswana Christian Council (BCC), which aims to provide educational, and development support - including the Mochudi Community Centre in Mochudi. Nature of support: The Trust provided support for the Brigade Instructors Training Scheme through a three-year grant of £4,000 per annum. A £500 grant was made to the Botswana YMCA for a feasibility study for a girls' hostel. The Mochudi Centre received an annual grant of £1,000 for 1971, 1972 and 1973. Funds were also provided allocated to the Tutume Community Project to equip and build new schools. Follow up grants were made to the Mochudi Centre terminating in 1978. A £2,500 grant was made to the BCC in 1973. Minutes: B&GSCT 3341, B&GSCT 3344, B&GSCT 3522, B&GSCT 3545, B&GSCT 3695, B&GSCT 3778, B&GSCT 4801. Notes: File organised by date from newest to oldest.
