| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, newsletters, leaflets, copies of published material, publications and funding requests relating to World Disarmament Campaign (WDC) and Schools Against the Bomb (SAB). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd. Applicant overview: The WDC was created in 1979 as a short-term campaign to direct attention to the United Nations Second Special Session on Disarmament. The organisation continued after the conference with the aim to bring information on the need for disarmament to people and places not already involved in the peace movement. Particularly WDC wishes to broaden the peace movement among churches, unions, welfare organisations, local authorities, professional bodies and political parties. SAB originated in a Surrey school Frensham Heights to campaign against nuclear weapons and to coordinate their activities with other schools. SAB publishes a newsletter and organises public information events. Nature of support: In 1979 the Trust made a grant of £3,000 to the WDC plus an additional £250 for the personal expenses of one of its members via the Fund. Support for the WDC ceased in 1982. In 1983 the Trust offered a grant of £350 to SAB paid through Pax Christi. Minutes: B&GSCT 5036, B&GSCT 5187, B&GSCT 5732, BCF 1992, BCF 2269. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest.
