Applicant overview: The Quaker Council for European Affairs (QCEA) was established in 1979 in order to follow through on the Quaker conviction to 'speak truth to power'. The Friends International Centre, Brussels is the base for the QCEA in Brussels. QCEA is involved in the subjects of peace work, human rights, capital punishment, conscientious objection, Third World development and related projects. Nature of support: In 1980 the Trust made a grant of £4,000 to the QCEA to work on issues relating to conscientious objectors. In 1981 a further £4,000 was allocated to work on disarmament or development work. In 1982 the Trust approved annual grants of £5,000 per annum for three years. In 1985 the Trust agreed to renew support to the QCEA at £5,000 per annum over three years.
