Applicant overview: The BSVRP was established in 1987 with the aims of 1) increasing knowledge and understanding of the scientific, practical and procedural problems of verifying a comprehensive test ban treaty (CTBT), including the development of appropriate expertise within the UK scientific community, 2) gathering data that will allow better detection and identification of underground nuclear explosions within given confidence levels, 3) showing the possibility of establishing seismic stations in sensitive military areas of the Soviet Union, 4) making the results of American, Soviet and British research more accessible, 5) increasing public interest and that of British seismologists in the subject, and 6) encourage international collaboration on seismology. Nature of support: In 1987 the Trust approved a single grant of £2,500 towards the project. A subsequent grant of £2,000 was made in 1988. Minutes: B&SGCT 6644, B&GSCT 6993.
