Applicant overview: VERTIC distributes technical information, especially briefings, on the verification of arms-control treaties, with the aim of promoting more discussion and better informed debate, in the media, Parliament, among non-governmental organisations, and individuals interested in disarmament and arms-control. VERTIC holds periodic private meetings with government officials to discuss prospects for arms-control with particular respect to verification. Nature of support: In 1986 the Trust approved, after some debate, a single grant of £5,000 toward a VERTIC programme to invite US personnel affiliated with the military industrial complex to the UK. In 1987 the Trust agreed to three annual grants of £7,500 to VERTIC.
