Applicant overview: The European Forum project was proposed by Mary Kaldor in 1990 as a programme to encourage contact among citizen groups committed to such goals as democracy, environmental responsibility and cultural pluralism. The programme will look at how to create a new order that breaks the pre-existing Cold War political and economic models. The Helsinki Citizens' Assembly (HCA) was established in Prague in 1990 to promote peace, democracy and human rights in Europe. European Dialogue (ED) was set up as the national organising committee for the UK. Nature of support: In 1990 the Trust approved three annual grants to set up EF at £14,000 per annum subject to office review: In 1991 the Trust approved £2,000 to a HCA conference in Bratislava.
