Applicant overview: Asha Community Health and Development Society was founded by Dr. Kiran Martin, a young paediatrician who in 1988 became aware of a cholera outbreak in one of Delhi's slums and was determined to help. Since that time she has formed a strong and highly effective registered non-profit organisation working to help the urban poor of Delhi. Asha means 'Hope' works with 300,000 slum dwellers in 46 slums around the city, enabling them to transform their lives. Nature of support: In 2006 the Trust agreed to a grant of £21,000 towards setting up a new project in a single new slum area and ongoing involvement in the Global Exchange programme.
