Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: Fathers Direct is the national information centre for fatherhood. It was founded in 1999 to promote close and positive relationships between fathers and their children. It is a charity funded by public and private grants. Fathers Direct aims to, 1) promote mental health amongst parents, in particular fathers, 2) promote the good health of children, both mental and physical, through enhancing understanding of the role of fathers in fulfilling the developmental and emotional needs of children, and by promoting the acquisition by fathers of specific skills and knowledge, 3) advance public education in and promote research into the psychological, social, economic or other influences on parents, in particular fathers, and to publish useful results of such research, and 4) assist in relieving fathers in families from mental distress or emotional difficulties, and in educating professionals workers and volunteers on appropriate forms of advice and support for fathers. Nature of support: In 2004 the Trust agreed to a single grant of £5,000 to help establish a Fathers Direct working group. Minutes: TM04/05-5.
