| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, reports, presentation slides, financial papers, grant terms and conditions, research funding agreement, agenda, copy memorandum and articles of association, file sheet and project proposal relating to the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) for the New Era Economics Programme promoting new approaches to economics. Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: IPPR was the brainchild of Clive Hollick, who developed the idea for an independent progressive think tank in 1986. With John Eatwell, Lord Hollick spent two years establishing the institute, which was publicly launched in 1988 with Tessa Blackstone as its first chair and the late James Cornford as its first director. IPPR is an independent charitable organisation that became a registered charity in 1988. The purpose of its work is to assist all those who want to create a society where every citizen lives a decent and fulfilled life, in reciprocal relationships with the people they care about. IPPR believes that a society of this sort cannot be legislated for or guaranteed by the state and certainly won't be achieved by markets alone. It requires people to act together and take responsibility for themselves and each other. It involves an ongoing struggle to address unjustified inequalities, to construct an economy which serves society, to challenge concentrations of power, to maintain a vibrant national and local democracy, to be open to the world and to protect our natural environment. The New Era Economics Programme looks to promote new approaches to economics following the 2008 financial collapse. Nature of support: In 2010 the Trust approved a grant of £15,000 to the IPPR to support the New Era Economics Programme. Minutes: No minutes cited. Notes: File organised by subject.
