| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, newspaper cuttings, reports, agendas, schematics and funding requests relating to Exodus, a Rastafarian group in Lozells. Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd., Southfield Trust. Applicant overview: Exodus is a Rastafarian group based in Lozells that consists primarily of ex-offenders. The Trust viewed Exodus, and its home as a means of rehabilitation and as a better environment for homeless and ex-Borstal boys. Exodus gradually evolved into a small craft business, making, among other things, hats. Nature of support: From 1977 the Fund provided a series of small grants to allow Exodus to improve home in Lozells used as an alternative to squats. Additional funds were provided for woodworking tools in order to make furniture, and later cabinets, for speakers. Despite the intention to gradually reduce support for Exodus, the Fund continued to support the organisation, including a grant of £1,500 for speaker equipment in 1980. A further grant for the same purpose was made in 1981.
