Applicant overview: The Pilgrim Social Action programme was established by Ermal Kirby, a religious scholar originally affiliated with the Wesleyan Holiness Church, Balsall Heath and later the Methodist Church. PSA aims to provide personal services including family counselling, housing projects, holiday activities, supplementary education and community liaison work. Nature of support: The Trust approved a two year grant to the PSA of £5,000 per annum effective April 1981 for the running costs of a youth hostel. A third year of funding was subsequently approved. In 1983 the Paul S. Cadbury Trust provided a single grant of £100 towards the Birmingham Education Department's education resource worker. The Trust agreed to set aside up to £3,000 to meet the expenses of a relief warden at the PSA hostel for 1984 to 1985. In 1986 a deficit in running costs was met by a Trust grant of £450.
