Applicant overview: The Rasta Camp was created in 1986 to represent the Afro-Caribbean community of Hillfields, Coventry in the area and to various authorities and agencies. Its activities began by identifying a lack of recreational facilities for young people in the area. The aims of The Rasta Camp are 1) promote love, peace and unity amongst its members in order to work harmoniously as an identifiable body within the community, 2) develop members' involvement in community activities and affairs, 3) promote and protect the rights of its members, 4) promote and provide cultural, religious and social education for its members, 5) develop the participation of young people in the camp's organisation, 6) educate and promote African art, crafts, music, literature and culture, and 7) create links with similar organisations worldwide in order to obtain a better knowledge of black culture and lifestyle.
