Applicant overview: Home Start is a voluntary visiting service to families with children under five whom it would benefit from help and encouragement on an individual basis and at a personal level. The Stockland Green Ward of Erdington was viewed by Birmingham Social Services Department and the Area Health Authority as having a high need for this type of service owing in part to the ethnic makeup of the area and this led to the proposal to create SGH. Nature of support: In 1987 the Trust offered a grant of £5,000 with the possibility of a further grant the year after.
