Applicant overview: The SBCFC was opened on 08 September 1979 by George Park, MP, as a multi-purpose community resource in the Red Lane area of Foleshill, Coventry, an inner-city zone recently assigned as a Planning Action Area. The Centre operates a playgroup, junior youth club, senior youth club, summer playscheme, women’s group, pensioner’s lunch and community lunch among other projects. The area served by the Centre has a large black and Asian community. In 1986 the SBCFC approached the Department of Health and Social Security and the British Council of Christian Churches for funds to employ a project worker with the remit of working with the black women's community of the SBCFC. Nature of support: In 1986 the Trust agreed to underwrite the cost of 25% of the salary of the women's worker for the three years at £2,500 per annum. Minutes: B&GSCT 6472.
