Applicant overview: Harambee Organisation Ltd. is the independent housing arm created from the Harambee Housing Association (HHA) as separate from the HHA's social welfare work. Nature of support: In 1984 the Trust approved a single grant of £3,500 to cover a shortfall in Birmingham Social Services payments. In 1985 a single grant of £10,570 was made to cover a salary shortfall resulting from a public funding decrease. That same year three grants were approved of approximately £9,000 towards the salary of a Finance Administration Officer. That same year a further staff grant was approved totalling £10,731 for a secretary and co-ordinator plus an increase of £2,500 per annum for premises. In 1986 the Trust made a grant of £12,500 towards the purchase of premises for the Harambee Organisation. A further £400 was committed to this end later in the year. In 1988 the Trust approved a grant of up to £1,750 for the preparation of a business plan and £2,500 towards servicing costs of the Harriet Tubman Bookshop.
