Applicant overview: ACSHO describes itself firstly as a community orientated organisation devoted to maintaining a healthy community with egalitarian relationships regardless of race or age. According to the ACSHO's Social Endeavour constitution the objects of the organisation's social programme are: to work to the needs of deprived parts of the community, and, to work on behalf of the immigrant community, particularly young people by the creation of a library, recreation facilities, community projects, sporting activities and discussion groups. Its activities are based in the Handsworth area. Nature of support: In 1977 the Fund approved a single grant of £1,500 for the purchase of fireproof doors for the ACSHO premises at 104 Heathfield Road. Annual support at £4,500 was reduced from 1979 onwards due to political changes at ACSHO. By 1980 annual general support was terminated, finishing at £3,000 per annum with no guarantee of future support. In 1983 the Fund approved a grant of up to £1,800 for the ACSHO Sewing Group. A number of other small travel, premises and social grants were also made to ACSHO.
