| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overviews, newspaper cuttings, job descriptions, copies of published material and funding requests relating to the Ladypool Community Languages Project (LCLP). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The LCLP has its origins in the mother tongue teaching which has been operating in some form in Ladypool School since 1980. A scheme was proposed to codify mother tongue instruction in 1984. This was proposed as the LCLP in 1986. The aims of the project are to support bilingualism within the normal school setting and thus 1) generate confidence for learning through acknowledging and respecting the validity of all cultures and languages, 2) enhance self-esteem and self-image for children, and 3) promote cognitive, social and emotional functions attributed to the maintenance of the mother tongue. Nature of support: In 1986 the Trust approved a single grant of £9,000 toward the first year of the project. A slightly smaller grant was made in 1988. Local authority funding was acquired in 1989. Minutes: B&GSCT 6560, B&GSCT 6879, B&GSCT 7060. Notes: File organised by date from newest to oldest. File numbered '3/15/4'. |
