Applicant overview: The MWC was established in 1987 for the purpose of 1) providing an integrated Centre which will be run by Muslim women for the Muslim women of Birmingham, 2) bringing together the various sections of this diverse community in a positive and productive way within an ethos of Muslim ethnicity, 3) encouraging self-help, self-reliance, self-development and participation within a familiar and caring atmosphere, 4) bringing together the different generations to encourage a sharing of wisdom, skills and experience, and 5) assisting in the formulation of appropriate and sensitive policies and practices, in order to be more able to express the needs of Muslim women. Nature of support: In 1988 the Trust agreed to underwrite £20,000 towards a loan for MWC premises in Moseley. A further small grant of £1,675 was made in 1990. Minutes: B&GSCT 6894, B&GSCT 7208.
