Applicant overview: The ASHC project emerged from the Steelhouse Lane Community Project (SLCP) and the assignment of a community worker specialising in providing services to the Asian community in the All Saints area of Birmingham. The Centre was established in 1982 with the aims of 1) providing an advisory service on housing, welfare rights, immigration, unemployment problems and to help people, particularly Asians to articulate their needs, 2) promoting cultural activities in the area of benefit and to foster a greater understanding of community culture, and 3) liaising with other groups in the region on common issues. Nature of support: In 1981 the Trust approved two or three annual grants to the ASHC at £5,000 per annum. Only part of this grant was required by the ASHC. Two further annual grants were approved in 1984 at £8,000 per annum. In 1986 payments were transferred to the Paul S. Cadbury Trust.
