Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The MRC is a grass-roots umbrella organisation serving the second largest number of refugees outside of London. MRC was established in 1987 with the support of the Race Relations Unit of the Birmingham City Council and representatives of other voluntary agencies and local authorities. The MRC is recognised by the Home Office and the British Refugee Council (BRC). MRC aims to act as a forum for the expression of collective views and needs of refugees in the Midlands, press for co-ordination of existing services to refugees and to develop strategies and policies to ensure that the needs of refugees and promote and undertake research into the needs and experiences of refugees and to inform and educate statutory and voluntary organisations and the general public about these issues.
