Applicant overview: The History of Black People in Britain project was originally proposed by the British Council of Churches (BCC) documenting in an audio-visual format the substantial black presence in Britain since the late sixteenth century to race relations issues in the 1980s. This project was subsequently transferred to the CARJ. In 1992 Radio One proposed a weeklong series of programmes with a race relations theme. Nature of support: In 1987 the Trust agreed to a single grant of up to £3,000 to the BCC project but this was not implemented at that time. In 1992 the Trust agreed to a grant of £5,000 towards Radio One race relations programmes. The grant was reauthorized to the CARJ later that year. Minutes: B&GSCT 6633.
