KCT aims to, 1) promote access to the arts for the mentally handicapped, 2) create a stimulating environment through which mentally handicapped people can develop to their fullest potential, 3) encourage development of individual talents and skills through the integration of dance, drama, mime, language and art, 4) produce work of the highest professional quality and standard, 5) facilitate integration between mentally handicapped people and those living in the wider society, particularly through work in the environments of education, recreation and the creative arts and through touring play productions, 6) provide opportunities for involvement in society and to foster better understanding of the capabilities of the mentally handicapped within that society, 7) improve the quality of life for mentally handicapped people, and 8) encourage mentally handicapped people to adopt a caring healthy lifestyle by developing awareness of physical and mental well-being. Nature of support: In 1990 the Trust approved a grant of £5,000 towards the costs of a fund raising feasibility study. In 1992 the Trust agreed to offer a grant of £10,000 to the KCT for 1992/1993, plus underwriting for the same amount for 1993/1994. In 1994 a grant of up to £20,000 was approved, possibly for disbursement over two years, towards the cost of purchasing a new residential centre.
