Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Paul S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: Woodbrooke was founded in 1903 as a dedicated Quaker study centre in Selly Oak, Birmingham. Woodbrooke's premises were donated by George Cadbury who had once lived there. Woodbrooke College became a registered charity in 1963. It provides educational and conference centres, operates a library as well as a cafe. Nature of support: In 1981 the Trust made a single grant of £450 towards travel bursaries for Muslim delegates to attend a peace dialogue conference between Muslims and Christians at Woodbrooke. That same year a small bursary was made for a weekend course dealing with Friends and Black-led churches. The Trust also agreed to a grant of £2,000 for a history of early Quakers in Australia. In 1982 the Trust agreed to three annual £1,000 grants to the Woodbrooke bursary fund. In 1983 the Trust offered a grant of up to £5,000 towards roofing repairs at Woodbrooke. In 1985 a further £1,000 was set aside for possible future research expenses relating to Quakers in Australia. In 1986 the Trust terminated annual subscriptions in favour of three annual grants of £1,500 for the bursary fund. Several other small research and travel grants are also included.
