| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes and funding requests relating to the establishment of a centre for ex-borstal (youth prison) girls. Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Southfield Trust. Applicant overview: The Prison Department of the Home Office approached the Cadbury Trusts to determine if some financial support could be found for an experimental centre for ex-borstal girls along the lines of similar work for boys carried out by the Southfield Trust. Nature of support: The Trust initially felt that finances were too heavily committed to the Southfield project to allow for similar investment in the Prison Department scheme. However, the success of the Southfield project led the Trust to offer three annual grants of £5,000 if matching funds could be found elsewhere.
