LevelFile
Date1974 - 1978
DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, newspaper cuttings, accounts, copies of published material, reports, agendas and funding requests relating to Northern London Preservation of the Rights of Prisoners (PROP). Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd., Southfield Trust. Applicant overview: PROP was formed in 1977 with the following aims: 1) to try to explain crime as the result of a defective society that must be changed through education, 2) to-cooperate with other organisations with similar interests, 3) to ensure prisoner rights are protected, 4) to break down the wall of secrecy around prisons, particularly the use of the Official Secrets Act, and 5) to conduct research into crime, prison conditions, the after effect of prisons and the erosion of human rights in prison. An earlier, more informal incarnation of PROP operated prior to 1977. Nature of support: On the advice of Southfield Trustees the Fund made a series of small grants toward PROP running costs. Minutes: BCF 1455, BCF 1480, ST 17/76, ST 25/76. Notes: Much of the interest in PROP by the Cadbury Trusts related to the work of Ted Ward for the organisation. File organised by date from newest to oldest. File not numbered.
