Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: In 2002 the Fawcett Society proposed to establish a one-year Commission on Gender and Justice. The Commission was established in response to an increase in women entering the criminal justice system and the under-representation of women as decision makers in the criminal justice system. Vera Baird QC MP acted as chair of the Commission, running a series of seminars, on-line discussions and public hearings. Nature of support: In 2002 the Trust approved a grant of £50,000 paid over two years to support core staffing costs of the Commission.
