Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust, Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd. Applicant overview: Young Disciples is a Birmingham social exclusion project set up for young people and run by young people. The project works with hard to reach young people predominately between the ages of 15 and 25. The project also works with younger age groups from 7 years upwards during school holidays. Young Disciples offers a unique development programme that challenges all issues that young people face using a holistic approach considering drugs, gangs, abuse and the situation confronting ex-offenders. Nature of support: In 2004 the Trust approved grants totalling £150,000 to be paid over three years to develop and augment fieldwork with research, training, consultancy and advocacy. In That same year the Fund approved a single £3,000 grant to the director of Young Disciples towards the costs of a mentor.
