Applicant overview: The creation of a regional government in south Sudan led to a change in administrative structures including the provision of social services. The International Union for Child Welfare (IUCW) is active in assisting the new local government to put in place centres and staff to address the needs of children, including juvenile delinquents. This includes liaison with probation officers and local police to, where possible, keep children out of the prison system. Nature of support: In 1975 Southfield Trustees recommended a single grant of £5,000 to IUCW to be paid through the Trust towards the cost of training probation staff in Juba, Sudan.
