Applicant overview: Formed in 1980 the Parliamentary All-Party Penal Affairs Group (APPAG) aims to increase its members' knowledge of penal affairs and to work through parliamentary channels for reform of the penal system in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Secretarial support for APPAG is provided by the Trust and serviced through National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (NACRO). The Scottish All-Party Penal Affairs Group (SAPPAG) was formed as the Scottish equivalent of APPAG. Nature of support: In 1983 on the advice of Southfield Trustees the Trust approved an annual grant of £7,500 per annum to APPAG for the duration of the sitting parliament. That same year a grant of £500 was made to SAPPAG. A further £500 was committed to SAPPAG in 1984 for administrative expenses. In 1987 support for APPAG was increased to £8,000 per annum.
