DescriptionThese subject files contain correspondence, publications and copies of published material relating to policing policy and the use of baton rounds/plastic bullets by police. Notes: The Birmingham Trades Council (BTC), Wolverhampton Polytechnic, Labour Club, Wolverhampton Community Relations Council (WCRC) and the Asian Youth Movement came together in 1986 to form The West Midlands Campaign Against Plastic Bullets (WMCAPS) in the wake of the Handsworth Riots of 1985. The contents of these files discuss opposition to the use of baton rounds/rubber bullets and the opposition to such proposals by voluntary sector organisations and their allies. A report on the Handsworth Riots written by Anthony Wilson is included among these papers as well as a large number of newspapers and other publications on the subject of the riots, police policy and rubber bullets/baton rounds and correspondence with Friends groups. Files not numbered, but labelled 'a' and 'b'.
