Applicant overview: In 1987 a research project was set up at the University of Birmingham by Dr Michael McConville to look into the beneficial impact of the neighbourhood watch schemes being established across the UK as part of a community policing agenda. The project was subsequently transferred to the University of Warwick, Coventry. Nature of support: In 1987 the Trust approved a single grant of £32,000 to be paid over two academic years to support the NW project. In 1989 the Trust approved a small grant of £1,000 toward transcription costs. In 1990 a further £400 was allocated toward conference costs.
