Date1991 - 1995
DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overviews, newspaper cuttings, annual reports, leaflets, reports, project proposals and funding requests relating to the Inquest: United Campaign for Justice. Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd. Applicant overview: Inquest was founded in 1981 by groups campaigning around a series of prison and police related deaths. In all of these deaths the coroner's inquest had failed thoroughly to probe the cause of the fatality and to return verdicts that accurately described the responsibility held by the police or prison staff. Inquest was also formed to assist bereaved families in similar deaths and to campaign for changes in the inquest system. It also aims to propose changes within the penal system to prevent subsequent deaths. Nature of support: In 1992 the Fund approved three annual grants of £20,000, £21,000 and £22,000 respectively. Minutes: BCF 3230. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered '5/1/24'.
