DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, payment summary, newspaper cuttings, copies of published material, excerpts of academic journals, reports, project proposals and funding requests relating to NACRO (National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Southfield Trust. Applicant overview: NACRO traces its origins to The Central Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society established in 1924. It was later named the National Association of Discharged Prisoners' Aid Societies, and then, in 1966, National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders. The current working name is simply, NACRO. NACRO was registered as a charity in 1964 and defines its aims as follows: 1) the care, resettlement and rehabilitation of offenders, and those at risk of offending, their families and dependents, 2) to further promote the study of and research into all aspects and methods of the prevention of crime, social exclusion, delinquency, and to make this information available, 3) to provide, promote, support or organise the recruitment and training of any offender, and those at risk of offending, and to assist them in finding employment and accommodation and to rehabilitate themselves, and 4) to promote, support or carry on either alone or in co-operation with any other body authority or person any project or scheme in connection with any methods of the prevention of crime and social exclusion and to provide money for such purposes whether by loan or otherwise. In 1978 a NACRO Development Officer was appointed to carry out research into ex-offender accommodation in the West Midlands. This research generated by this post was used to inform NACRO's regional West Midlands Accommodation Consultative Group (WMACG). Nature of support: In 1986 the Trust approved a single grant of £898 to cover the costs of printing for a report on black people in the criminal justice system. That same year a small grant was made by the Trust for conference costs. Minutes: B&GSCT 6530, B&GSCT 6580, ST 13/81. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered '5/8/1'.
